Part of the problem is fast fashion - another is aftercare. Due to poor, outdated laundry habits, the lifespan of garments is diminishing. With the fashion industry being the fourth largest polluter in the world, it's time we changed the way we consume and care for our clothes.
6 Simple Tips To More Sustainable Laundry
Washing based on an existing routine or habit is common, but if you make small changes in the washing process, you can reduce the climate impact without extra effort.
Lower the wash down
Washing clothes in 30 degrees, instead of 40 degrees, can reduce energy consumption by up to 35%
Save water
Use steam to freshen up clothes that do not require a long washing program and save more than 40L of water per wash. Steam can also reduce wrinkles making it a durable replacement for harsh heat from an iron
Detergent
Use liquid detergent when washing coloured clothes as powdered detergent can contain bleach which can be the cause of colour fading.
Fabric softener
Use fabric softener as it can increase the strength of clothing fibres and make them last longer
Correct dosage
