The butler’s pantry is the ultimate kitchen luxury which is becoming a must-have in modern homes. With the ability to keep the main kitchen looking pristine, while offering additional space for dishes, storage and meal prep, it’s little wonder a butler’s pantry is the latest hot topic in renovation.

Bonnie, Lana and Erin from Three Birds Renovations have explained all there is to know about the butler’s pantry:

What are the pros?

A butler’s pantry is perfect for keeping the main kitchen clean and uncluttered. It provides a space for meal prep, extra storage and is a dream when entertaining guests – you can hide dirty dishes while you’re busy socialising. If you like your kitchen to look sleek and uncluttered, a butler’s pantry is for you.

What are the cons?

If cooking and home entertaining are not your thing, it can become another space to help keep your kitchen clean. Instead of a butler’s pantry, Lana has created a ‘butler’s office’, which provides a space where the butler’s pantry would have been, to catch up on work or kid’s homework, while still being in the hub of the home.

What goes in the pantry?

It depends on your lifestyle, some butler’s pantries will contain an extra sink, others will be more like a walk-in pantry for food and utensil storage. Some will go all out and contain a second oven and fridge – it’s completely up to you. For people with a big family or who love entertaining, consider a separate fridge and freezer, such as 466L Stainless-Steel Single Door Refrigerator and Electrolux 388L Natural Stainless-Steel Single Door Freezer.

The main consideration?

Consider how much space it will take up and how much budget you must allocate to it. If this means compromising significantly on your main kitchen, it may be better to focus on another area, such as investing in quality appliances. We love the 90cm Dual Fuel Freestanding Cooker with Pyrolytic Cleaning.

Tips for next level luxury?

If you have the space and budget, adding another dishwasher, warming drawer, oven and fridge is a great idea for a big and busy family. Natural light is also a great way to make the butler’s pantry feel more inviting, just make sure it’s located on an external wall.
